Food Handler Certificate

Overview

This comprehensive course is designed to equip food handlers with the essential knowledge and skills to ensure food safety in various food service environments. Recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, this certification meets the provincial requirements for food handler training.

Course Content

Course Format

The course is available online, allowing participants to learn at their own pace. It includes interactive modules, quizzes, and a final assessment to reinforce learning. The total estimated completion time is approximately six hours.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course and final exam, participants will receive a Food Handler Certificate recognized by all public health units in Ontario. This certification is valid for five years.

Ontario Regulatory Requirement

According to Ontario Regulation 493/17, every operator of a food service premise must ensure that there is at least one certified food handler or supervisor on the premises during all operating hours.

Yes, all the Food Handler Certificates expire after 5 years.

A score of at least 70% on the final exam is necessary to pass the course and receive your certificate.

You have an unlimited number of attempts to complete the final exam. However, if you are suspected of cheating, you will be removed from the course and required to re-enroll and pay for a new course.

A photo ID is required to verify your identity, as mandated by government regulations. The proctor only needs to confirm your name and photo. Any other information on the ID may be concealed.

Yes, you can complete both the course and exam on any camera-enabled device, including smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

To take the exam, you will need:
⦁ A computer with a webcam and microphone
⦁ A quiet room with no people nearby
⦁ No headphones, cell phones, notebooks, or paper present
⦁ A government-issued photo ID
When you click "Begin Final Exam," you will be connected to a proctor. Once they confirm that all exam conditions are met, you may start the exam.
The proctor will monitor you throughout the exam via your webcam. The use of headphones, notes, external monitors, or cell phones is not allowed, and no assistance from others is permitted. You must remain in the room without talking, leaving, or taking notes during the exam.
